One of the key reasons I identify as socially liberal and fiscally conservative is that I recognize the importance of personal freedom and individual responsibility. Individuals should have the freedom to make their own choices about their personal lives without interference from the government or other institutions. This means supporting liberal social policies, such as marriage equality, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, reproductive rights, and criminal justice reform.
